Tricks to Teach Your Body
- If your throat tickles, scratch your ear:When the nerves in your ear are stimulated they create a spasm in your throat. That
spasm relieves the tickle.
- If you can't hear someone at a party, lean in with your right ear. It's better at following the rapid rhythms of speech. If, on
the other hand, you're trying to hear that song playing softly in the elevator, turn your left ear in. It's better at picking up music tones.
- Feel no pain: German researchers have discovered that coughing during an injection can lessen the pain of a needle stick.
- Fight fire without water: Worried those wings will repeat on you tonight? Sleep on your left side. Studies have shown that
patients who sleep on their left side are less likely to suffer from acid reflux.
- Stop the world from spinning: Too many glasses of wine? Put your hand on something stable. The tactile input from a stable
object gives your brain a second opinion, and you feel more in balance.
- Thaw your brain: If you're trying to get rid of a brain freeze, press your tongue flat against the roof of your mouth, covering
as much as you can.
- If you hand or foot falls asleep, rock your head from side to side and the pins and needles will disappear within a minute.
